Antique 1898 Gorham "Baronial" Sterling Silver Figural Flower Tea Strainer
Gorham
Up for your consideration is a beautiful piece of Gilded Age luxury: an authentic Gorham Manufacturing Company sterling silver over-the-cup tea strainer in the highly sought-after Baronial pattern. Originally patented in 1898, this stunning piece showcases the exceptional craftsmanship of late-Victorian American silversmithing. Design Details:The strainer features a breathtaking, highly dimensional figural bowl sculpted in the form of a fully blooming chrysanthemum or poppy flower. The drainage holes are artfully pierced directly into the center of the bowl to mimic natural flower stamens and seed pods. The long handle is heavily decorated with the deep, crisp repoussé scrollwork characteristic of the Baronial line, balanced by a smaller loop handle on the opposite side to hook over standard teacups. Markings & Authenticity:The reverse side of the handle features Gorham’s official hallmarks:Gorham Pictorial Marks (Lion Passant, Anchor, and Gothic G)STERLINGPAT. 1898Factory Pattern Code 2381Condition Notes (Please Read):Structural Repair: There is an old, stable, professional solder repair at the underside seam where the main handle meets the floral bowl (clearly visible in the backlit listing photos). The handle is completely solid, strong, and secure for display or gentle use. Interior Finish: The bowl may have remnants of its original historic gold wash (vermeil) lining.
